sold in 2016 than in any year since
1991, overtaking digital downloads
for the rst time. In the book,

points in the 20th century. Yet, each time, this most
robust format cherished by bands and collectors

world’s biggest record fair, the Mega Record
& CD Fair in Utrecht. I’m writing these words
while 30,000 feet above the North Sea, with
a bag stu ed full of records. Cas Bosland has
presided over this twice-yearly pilgrimage for vinyl
addicts from across the globe since 1992 – and it’s still
growing, with the April show encouraging 525 traders
and 25,000 crate diggers to journey to e Netherlands.
Ask Cas about the vinyl revival
and his response is simple: “Vinyl
never went anywhere. We’ve always
believed in vinyl.”
Also joining us this issue is our
new columnist Simon Raymonde,
former Cocteau Twin and founder
of Bella Union – one of the UK’s
most cherished indie labels and an
incubator for talent including
Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty,
Midlake and John Grant. In this world of eeting

social-media saturation, Simon argues that the value
of a lovingly engineered vinyl platter cannot be
