here simply hasn’t been enough 1/144 in
our pages recently. I know some may
disagree but given the leaps and bounds in
which the scale has come on in recent years then
I feel it is an oversight on my part that needs to
be addressed. Fortunately two of the IPMS SIG’s
stalwarts, Mike Verier and Huw Morgan, have
furnished me with the goods. Mike’s diminutive
Jug is a perfect demonstration of what is
currently available for those scaling down, while
Huw Morgan’s Tristar conversion is exactly the
kind of modelling that excites both my
admiration and my envy.
Elsewhere in this issue we cover a trio of
brand new kits, with Rick Greenwood’s build of
the Tamiya F-4B, Ugur Kenel’s Skyshark, and Jon
Tabinor’s Whirlwind, the paint on which was
hardly dry before it was whisked onto the cover
at the eleventh hour – thanks Jon! Meanwhile
the mills of God may grind slow, but not nearly
as slow as those of the Editorial Workbench,
where that Contrails Blackburn Blackburn is still
in a state of considerable unreadiness. I
managed to get the tail on to my satisfaction,
but the rear cockpit position is still a blank space,
and continues to defy my best attempts to
establish what is actually meant to be in there. It
may well return to its box in due course while I
seek relaxation with something a little less niche.
Fortunately there is no urgency as I would rather
offer the collective knowledge and wisdom of
various IPMS SIG members in these pages than
my own assumptions and guesswork.
From the brand new to the brand old. Some
of us may regard those venerable FROG kits we
picked up at a show the year before last as loft
installation. Others build them. For those in the
latter category I am pleased to present another
helping of Brian Derbyshire’s research on the
subject of B-25s. Reading articles like this inspire
me every bit as much as the brand new state of
the art toolings covered elsewhere. At the end of
the day it’s all modelling, and give us plastic,
glue, filler, and a bit of paint, and theoretically
there isn’t anything that cannot, or should not
be built.
Maybe that Blackburn will make it past the
post yet …
