A bout the Author
EULALIA BOURNE has "lived" the books she has
authored. The intensity of the many years of her crea-
tive teaching in one-room rural schools is captured
in this record of a matchless year at a ranch school in
the Altar Valley. Incredibly the years of schoolteach-
ing were the same years in which her homestead grew
into a cattle ranch, established and thriving under one
woman's care alone. Known as "Sister" to hundreds
of her neighbors, friends, and former pupils, Sister
wrote in her first book that she was wrapped up in
"kids and cows."

1967),
she told about the cows with affection, wit, and
touches of poetry. Here she tells about the kids, and
one of the best years of their lives - and hers too -
at Baboquivari School.
