elcome to the fight
Fields of Fray is a tactical tabletop game with an emphasis on character creation and player
versus player combat. Stripped down of the roleplaying and dungeon crawling elements that
many games have, players will have the chance to sit down and enjoy a tabletop experience
with a lower entry point and a clear end.
While I do love a traditional tabletop experience I would like to offer you something differ-
ent. A game where each encounter is new, where players can let their creativity shine and
clash in battle with friends. Fields of Fray is a system for all gamers, new and old alike.
One major hurdle Fields of Fray looks to overcome is cost. No person should ever feel that
they can't participate because they don't have the new rule book or exact models. This game
was born in a living room and made from what was laying around. I would like that spirit
of simple fun to carry forward. There are no tokens, special dice, maps or figures to collect
here, just a set of rules and your own imagination.
The coffee table? That is your arena. That interesting rock in the backyard? It is now a
massive boulder to take cover behind. Whatever token, figure, or statue you feel represents
your character best. That is now you.
This is a game made with love for my friends and now I am very excited to share it with
you all.
So gather up your group, build your characters and fight for the top spot.

Before we dive into the specifics of character creation, let's take a look at how to get started. First let's
learn the kinds of actions a player can perform and how the first few turns of the game look. Under-
standing these basics will be key to knowing how you would like to build a character suited to your play
style.
What you will need
While I wanted to keep it simple, the fact of the matter is you cannot have a tabletop game without a
few requirements.
Character movement is measured in inches, so some kind of small tape measure or measuring stick is
required.
The combat system works solely on six-sided dice and because of how the combat works no more than
4 dice will ever be needed at one time.
Pencils and Paper are a must. This is still a tabletop game so character creation does require you taking
down a few notes and stats.
Set up
Find a table or surface big enough to play on, keep in mind that character movement is done by mea-
suring in inches. I find a coffee table or dinner table works best.
Using various terrain pieces such as sticks, stones and even terrain from other games, you will want to
put together a map. Make sure to leave room for all figures to get around and stand. For odd-shaped
terrain decide what will be passable and what will not.
Ideally, each player will take a piece of the terrain and place it on the board one at a time to really
