Crafting the Hierophant's Scepter
Frater Mea Fides in Sapientia
I am going to try and present some craft projects that should be within the capabilities of most folk with
minimal tools.
Our first project will be a Hierophant scepter. This is for a 10 point crown, if your group uses a
different number, modify accordingly. Here I will be using readily available wood craft items.
I often use Catan's or Michael Bros. and, occasionally, Jo-Anne Fabrics.

The parts used will be about $6 worth of parts: (Price may vary widely)
(1) 1” dowel, appx, 24” long
(1) 1-1/2” Wooden ball knob (flat on bottom with screw hole)
(optional) (1) 1-1/4” Wooden ball knob
(10) 1” hearts
(3) 1” inside, smooth napkin rings or ring toss rings (narrower)
(1) 1-1/4” Inside, Colonial napkin ring.
(1) 1-3/4” Country Candle Cup
(2) 3-1/2 long deck screws
Glue, wood putty, paints as needed.

Alternate rings...
Take the Colonial ring and mark up 5 equal spaced points...
Next, start gluing on 5 hearts
Then add the second set of 5 hearts. When dry, you can fill in the back sides with a little wood putty for
greater stability. I put my second row inside, but depending on the exact pieces, you may want to
mount them outside.
Drill through the candle cup.
Try to drill as straight as possible, but don't fret – Screwing it will somewhat self-align things.
Insert and glue candle cup into crown piece (May require light sanding for fit). You may also want to
do this before adding the hearts...whatever works best for you, and your specific parts. Here I used the
optional ball.
Drill a hole into each end of the Dowel rod.
Put a screw into one end, cut off head and thread crown portion on, using glue to fasten.
If using the optional ball it can also be screwed on if a long enough screw is used, else glue in place.
