t seems the internet model chat is once
again consumed by an argument about
nothing. This time, on one side ‘You Must
Gloss Before Decals’, and on the other side
‘Gloss Before Decals is Unnecessary’. The
problem is not these two positions, but the
strange obsession that enters men’s minds
in such ‘internet debates’, that they must be
right, and more importantly, they have to
make sure everyone agrees with them.
Regular readers will know, that both
approaches are represented in these pages.
Many of our contributors do not do it, and
many of our contributors swear by it.
Therein lies the nub on all these dogmas. If
it works for you, it works. That is all that
matters. No-one needs to establish a single
belief, this is modelling not religion! Do
what you like doing, and don’t worry about
the rest.
Here at SAM Towers we are working on
some exciting new projects for 2020. In
addition to your monthly SAM dose of
aircrafty goodness, we will also be bringing
you special issues focussing on aviation
themes, and new books blending
modelling and history in the best traditions
of the magazine, because modelling and
historical reference are indivisible parts of
our great hobby. I look forward to letting
you all in on the secret in due course…
This month I am pleased to welcome
more new contributors to SAM! Welcome
Mika Heikkilä and his dirty 1/48 Fw 190D,
Oliver Peissl brings us a hard-working
Typhoon, and Bob Steinbrunn gives us a
beautiful clean Pfalz. Remember, I am
always interested to hear from new
contributors. Just drop me an email with a
few photos of our work, and we can have a
chat.
Sadly there is no Colour Conundrum this
month as
illustrator has been unwell
and unable to complete the artwork in
time. Colour Conundrum will return next
month.
