part in the Battle of Jutland which was the largest naval battle of the
First
World War.

30s
Warspite
underwent a major

Following repairs,
Warspite
joined the
Eastern Fleet taking
part in operations in
the Indian Ocean.
Once home,
Warspite
was then
able to give support
to the British naval
formation ‘Force H’
during the Italian
campaign when
Allied forces took
part in operations in
and around Italy.
Warspite
was badly
damaged by German
radio-controlled
glider bombs during
the landings at
Salerno.
Warspite
bombed
German positions
during the
Normandy landings,
earning her one of
14 Second World
War battle honours,
the most awarded
battleship for actions
during the war.
Warspite
was
decommissioned.
The battleship ran
aground while under
tow at Prussia Grove,
Cornwall.
An unsuccessful
attempt to re-float
her was made.
Warspite
was finally
dismantled, the
remains of the masts
were set on display
at Prussia Cove
while one section
stands on a point
overlooking the
cove.
