> Chris Jarvis on the keys: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- My name is Chris Jarvis, I'm 18 years old and am doing a Bachelor of Science at Adelaide University (having decided that electrical engineering was not for me). I have many musical interests and play a number of instruments with several years tuition in violin and piano, mainly in a classical style. I also play guitar and harmonica casually. Most of my musical knowledge, however, has been gained through writing modules on tracker programs. I began (about 6 years ago) on the Amiga using the first version of the original Soundtracker, a 4 track program with limited operations (mainly due to lack of memory space). With no instruction of how to use it, I gradually learned the basics of the tracker system and soon came to appreciate it as (in my opinion) the best and easiest way to compose music. I moved on to Protracker (V1.1a) which had a great sample editor and sample mixing functions although my music was very basic - and pretty crappy by today's standards. In late 1994 we got our PC and I was quick to get Screamtracker 3 from Jeffrey Lim (an old primary school friend and the creator of Impulse Tracker in '95). LOOK AT ALL THOSE CHANNELS! By then my music was a little better with more knowledge of chord progressions and harmonies. In December 1995 Jeff released Impulse Tracker and since then my mods have been rapidly improving with a much greater use of the more advanced effects! I have seen tracker music advance from simple tunes of a definite 'tracker' style (but I still like the demo tunes etc.) to the complicated songs by the likes of Purple Motion and FM. That's a basic history of my Tracker experience and I intend to continue my favourite hobby which is becoming more and more popular everywhere - I also think everyone should get a copy of IT because the new features are a big step for tracker programs. Apart from musical interests my hobbies include sport (I play tennis and soccer), the usual social stuff and a good beer!
