o you have models painted years ago in your showcase that are far below your current standards?
Do you keep dull models with very few painting and weathering effects hidden in the closet? Have
you locked your old models in the storage room so your friends cannot see them?
Well if you have, indeed this is the magazine issue you need! Welcome to recycling!
In this instalment of The Weathering Magazine, we will show you how to give a second life to those out-
of-date, boring, and not much to look at models that we all keep forgotten in some corner. By recycling
them, you will save much of the assembly work and even painting time and effort. In addition, those
long-forgotten or abandoned models will not cost you any money! Moreover, if you want to experiment
with new techniques without worrying about ruining a brand-new model, nothing better than recycling
an old one. There are only advantages!
No matter if they are models with a botched paint job that you have abandoned out of frustration, old
half-finished projects, or models you finished a long time ago with poor and out-of-date effects, recycling
is the solution. In this edition of TWM, we are going to show you some examples of old models suc-
cessfully recycled. Some of them were originally built 20 years ago, when the author had less experience
and today’s advanced weathering techniques had yet to be developed or popularized. Each example is
a decent model kit that is still available from the manufacturer, these are models that can be brought
back to life instead of leaving them lying in a corner accumulating dust. All this is possible with much
less effort than would be necessary if you started a model from the ground up! The goal of recycling is
finishing old projects, applying new effects to old models for practice, or completely repainting botched
or inaccurate finishes.
Maybe now you understand how it is possible that so many great modellers on Facebook have finished
wonderful models with great painting and weathering effects in such a very short time! They have dis-
covered recycling, have you?
