This standard falls within the responsibility of Technical Committee CEN/TC 139 “Paints and varnishes”
(Secretariat: DIN, Germany). It is identical with International Standard ISO 1522:2005 which was prepared by
Technical Committee ISO/TC 35 “Paints and varnishes”, Subcommittee SC 9 “General test methods for paints
and varnishes” (Secretariat: BSI, United Kingdom).
The responsible German body involved in its preparation was the

Amendments
This standard differs from DIN EN ISO 1522:2000-09 as follows:
a) References to the national standards DIN 53157 (König pendulum damping test), NF T30-016 (Persoz
pendulum test) and ASTM D 4366 have been deleted because the three responsible countries (Germany,
France and USA) have adopted ISO 1522 as a national standard.
b) Information on the hardness of ball bearings for the König pendulum has been corrected.
c) For the Persoz pendulum, the tolerance for damping from a 12° displacement to a 4° displacement on a
polished plate-glass panel has been increased from
±

15 s.
d) For test panels, a coating thickness of 30
μm
is given as the preferred minimum dry-film thickness.
e) A note has been added stating that it is common practice when testing with the König pendulum to
measure the number of swings, and giving a means of using this number to calculate the time for the
swing amplitude to decrease.
