George Meyer's captivating little sport biplane has been a
recurring modeller's favourite ever since it first appeared in the
mid 1950s. Phillip Kent presents his 65" (1651mm) wingspan

GO FLYING, GO HOME!
Our BMFA’s ability to communicate directly with individual
members via email is light years ahead of the old days
when the only regular contact with out national body, for
nearly all of us, was through the bi-monthly BMFA News
magazine. Those at BMFA Headquarters were
commendably quick off the mark, after the first ‘chink of
light’ at the end of the tunnel of Lockdown was first
announced, with a communal message to individual
members, with sensible guidelines on how to use the
minimal reduction of restrictions in orderto get some model
flying in again.
Individual Clubs will no doubt have repeated the
guidelines to their members, tailored to suit their own club
field situations - the two clubs of which I am a member
certainly did so.
Formal model flying events around the country will
nevertheless have to wait, with no indication as yet as to
when the summer round of events will be re-established.
Many of the early summer meets will certainly be
casualties for this year.
Similarly, the full size air show calendar seems to be on
hold and air museums around the country are slammed
up. Both these provide so much inspiration for our scale
modeling and in the case of the latter, a source of
material for
‘In Detail’
photo studies on which FSM relies. All
that will have to wait
Meantime, the evidence is that model building boards
have been in more than regular use for the time of year.
Model trade emporiums with an established presence in
the mail order field have enjoyed a bit of a windfall - very
busy indeed; I’m still waiting for an order of balsa sheet
placed three weeks ago at time of this writing
“...can’t cut
the stuff quick enough...”
I was told when I placed the
order.
So let’s keep ‘em flying under safe guidelines and save
the tall model flying stories for the monthly club meeting
when we’ll all meet again!
