The Nightside and the Veils
In the event that you have failed to figure out the
obvious, the Qliphoth is bullshit.
The Qliphoth, or Etz Ha-Daath [Tree of Death; Tree of
Knowledge], divides the Black Plane of Chaos into thirty-
three regions which are of great use in initiation, alchemy,
and practical sorcery: eleven spheres (ten Qliphas + Daath)
and twenty-two roads, all divided into seven “Hells” and
portrayed as a two-dimensional Gestalt.
And needless to say, the Black Plane of Chaos is hardly
two-dimensional.
And don’t even get me started on the roads between
the spheres. First of all, everyone calls them the Tunnels of
Set, which is a stupid fucking name. The more obscure title
of the roads, i.e., “the Caverns of Choronzon,” not only
makes more sense, but is also much cooler sounding, and
since the Tunnels of Set do not legitimately exist in the first
place, I think that the coolness of the name is pretty
important. I mean damn, if you’re going to get everything
wrong, at least do it in style.
And yes, to be clear, the Tunnels of Set legitimately do
not exist. At all. There are no set paths between the Qliphas
—the archdemons attributed to the Caverns of Choronzon
help black magickians forge their own unique paths
between the spheres.
However, these completely imaginary tunnels can
serve a practical initiatory purpose. The initiatory forces of
these fantastical “tunnels” or “caverns” can be brought
forth for alchemical purposes with magnificent results.
And that’s what you want, right? Magnificent results? I
