Out of Darkness
I
t’s hard to believe that
despite the restrictions
imposed by Covid, we are
already halfway through the
year. It seems only moments ago that
once again we were being told
that life was to be put on
hold and we faced weeks of
uncertainty, which turned
into months, yet that was
back in January! It has
been a long road and we
are not out of the woods
yet, but if this pandemic
has taught me anything it’s
the comradeship of fellow
modellers from across the
globe, whose good humour,
modelling skills and in some cases
general silliness has been a bedrock during
these long days and months. So, I hope
we can now look forward with cautions
optimism to better times ahead,
as we emerge out of darkness into
the light. So, what have we in store
this month, well, as always I’m very
pleased to be able to bring you a
submersible, this time in the shape
of Robert Stinchcombe’s ‘Seehund’
German Midget Submarine. The
actual machine was based on the British
X-Craft, which the Germans managed from
the Tirpitz Raid, and went about developing
their own versions and doing trials with
them. Out of that the ‘Seehund’ was
born. Also, this month Jezz
Coleman brings another of the
latest Zvezda kits with his
1:35 Bumerang 8x8 ‘Moscow
Victory Parade Fit’ build,
taking the salute in factory
fresh condition. We also
welcome back master
modeller Dawid Branski
with a quite superb step-by-
step build of the Tamiya KV-1
a ‘Russian Colossus’. SMMI
regular Lee Powell brings a 1:48
build to our pages with his ‘Quarter
Scale Soviet’ build of the Tamiya T-34-85, and
we also welcome back Christiano Couto as he
‘Tames the Tiger’ with his 1:35 Tamiya Tiger
I build. So, as always, I hope there
is plenty to both edify and inspire,
and all that remains for me to say
is….
