DARK CLASS MGB
This month’s feature plan is of a late 1950’s Motor Gun Boat
known as the Dark Class. It was the first RN fast patrol boat
to be fitted with diesel engines and could reach speeds of up
to 47 knots. Many versions of this class were produced and
some were used by foreign navies. The model is built at 1/24
scale and the article includes build details and on the water
performance. Please note this feature plan is NOT a FREE plan
as it is too large to print on a free plan size sheet.

be precise, we have a build article on the Poole Yacht, a toy found
during excavation work in Poole. Other build articles include a

GREETINGS ALL,
One of the main advantages of our chosen hobby
is that it is so diverse, we have many readers who
are only interested in the static maritime models and
others who are more interested in the on the water
operational models. I did have the opportunity the other
day of introducing one of MMI’s static model article
contributors to having a go with an operational on the
water model for the first time. To say it was a disaster
was an understatement, as this mature guy was very well
experienced in sailing full sized craft but had NEVER used
a model transmitter. Hence a training course was put in
place on how to navigate a model. The main point he made
was that models on the water come alive and look more
realistic. Perhaps we may have a convert to on the water
models, I am sure he will relive in detail his experience in a
future article.
Talking of water, many readers may be aware I live in the
depths of Somerset and the early part of the year was
deluged in water. There was flooding over vast areas of
the Somerset levels, not good news for the inhabitants
(we live on a high point of the county so we are OK!) but in
one of the local papers there was a very nice picture of a
flooded street with a model tug floating in the foreground!
