t is with great pride that the
FlyPast
team offers you a new-
look magazine. It’s been a long time since our last make-over
and taking on board all the things you’ve been telling us,
we believe the time is right to introduce a fresh design with
easier to read text and even better content. We’ll be running some
new regular features, among them
FlyPast Classics,
which gets
under the skin of an aircraft type, offering a different perspective
and more colour artwork – and bringing you fascinating detail
about subjects we’ve not explored previously; I hope you’ll find
this issue’s study of
Merlin-engined Seafires
as fascinating as
we did. You will also notice that we’ve given our general news
reporting its own section, enabling us to dedicate separate space
to grass roots restoration projects currently taking shape in the
UK and abroad, through news stories and more in-depth articles.
The perfect choice this month is the
Brooklands Museum
Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIa,
recently brought back to glorious
ground-running condition.
Airshow coverage includes Duxford’s autumn extravaganza,
while our intrepid assistant editor Jamie Ewan explored the
continental gems displaying at Germany’s
Hahnweide
event.
December’s edition also has the first of a three-part competition
that will test your aircraft recognition skills – and put you in

After his
first season in charge, he details the challenges and pleasures of
presenting the RAF’s living history to the public, but also looks
ahead to next year’s big BoB anniversary. That’s something we can
all get excited about, and

will certainly be paying its own
