Drives of floppy of high density for the Amiga
Tested in Amiga 4000 desktop and 100% functionary as Floppy drive of 1.44

Using an adapter connected to any of the related models above, you Drive of high density
in its Amiga will be able to use:
A357 adapter
For “DF0” in Amiga 4000 desktop, to use jumper as figure above and hardwired in the way
it flat wire, that is, before “twist” in the handle. For the other models of Amiga, to
connect in the end of flat wire (twist) to use itself as DF0: , for example in the Amiga
4000 Tower.

34 ways, to the R9 resistance in the PCB of drive

Comment:
If you to use the model of SONY (MPF-920E), do not have necessary
of if making modification none in the PCB of the same.

Series that needs modification to be used in the Amiga as drive of
880K
To use this model, it is necessary to change of position two
internal resistors, and also drive needs to place the DISKCHANGE in
the bolt the 2 and READY in bolt 34.
To make the modification of signal READY, it changes the resistance
of the original position R45 for the R46 position.
To become it as drive “DS0=DF0”, it changes the resistance of the
original position D1 for the D0 position
To place the DISKCHANGE in bolt 2, it welds a wire of the original
position R45 until bolt 2, of the connector of 34 ways.
It sees below in the photo, that it is in high resolution, as to
make the modifications in its drive.
In the example below, the resistências are in distinct
different points and also it has denomination of those
reported in the image above. If it the same deals with
a more current revision of drive Panasonic JU-257 A606.
Comment:
As the revision of drive JU-257, the positions of the
resistors can vary, but the principle is the same for
effecting the necessary modifications.

Amiga, it is enough to
configure jumpers below
type “slide” as picture:
SW1= RY
SW2= ME
SW3= 0
Why the Amiga is different of IBM?
IBM used floppies of drive 5,25 " initially projected ones for Shugart*. Drive of Shugart floppy specified signal READY in bolt 34, but
IBM decided for not using in this way. Selector ones of entrance existed three, which logicamente would have to be connected to drives
0, 1 and 2. However IBM decided, that drives was more easy to make all to use DRIVE SELECT 1, and to make the twist of flat wire for
the identification (drive select) of the others drives. When IBM projected the PC-AT, used one drive of high density 5,25 " and placed
the signal of DISKCHANGE in bolt 34 (not used). It is perceived with this, that IBM was not interested in following the industrial
standard. The designers of the Amiga were not so arrogant thus.

Drive of floppy was invented by the engineers of IBM, led for Alan Shugart. Flexible record 5 1/4 " in 1976 for Shugart and hard disk 3
1/2 " for Sony in 1981. This last one that we use nowadays.
