Hello everyone, welcome to the
November 2017 edition of your
favourite aviation modelling
magazine!
This month we have returned to our core principles and
decided to deal with the build and assessment of four
new kits: Kittyhawk’s 1:48 Huey; Tamiya’s 1:48 Ki-61
Hien; Tamiya’s 1:32 F4U-1D Corsair and the brand-new
Airfix 1:48 Sea Hurricane.
All of these kits offer the enthusiast the chance to
build highly-detailed replicas of some of the world’s most
famous aircraft and as such, we are delighted to show
you how to build each one, improve areas where needed
and in the process, build models that you will be proud
to display.
We begin with the Corsair. Alan Price has taken this
project on, building and painting the kit over the next
three issues. Being so complex, we decided that it would
be a travesty to look at it as part of an abridged feature
so elected to split it into three parts, each one offering
all of the information that you will need to build this
spectacular kit. We hope you approve of our approach
and enjoy the results.
The second major feature concerns another Tamiya
kit, this time their delightful Ki-61 Hien. Tamiya are as
well-known for their 1:48 kits as they are for those in
larger scale, the results often being equally spectacular.
Their Hien is certainly no different in this regard, the
contents of the box combining with ease to create
a stunning replica of what must be one of the most
attractive aircraft of WWII. Though very easy to build, it’s
certainly a challenge to paint, but we’ll guide you through
the process in our specially-extended feature.
Not all kit builds run on rails, so when Mike Williams
decided to tackle the new Airfix 1:48 Sea Hurricane, he
certainly wasn’t expecting to build two kits after problems
with the fit of the first! But build two he did, the second
being much more successful, the story of which he will
tell this month…
The fourth and final review deals with Kitthawk’s
depiction of the ubiquitous UH-1 or Huey, as it is more
commonly known. Having been involved in the creation
of the kit, Floyd S. Werner Jr was the perfect man to
take a look at the results, offer a guide to the building
and painting of the kit and any improvements that may
be needed along the way. This is a lengthy review with
plenty too read, but we hope that you enjoy our slightly
different approach and the information that it offers!
